PM Trudeau warns “Covid is not done with us yet.” He says if 80-90% of eligible Canadians get up to date with their Covid vaccination, “we’ll have a much better winter with much less need” for public health restrictions.

Ontario top doctor expands 4th vaccine eligibility, acknowledges myocarditis risk from vaccines https://canadianriley.com/ontario-top-doctor-expands-4th-vaccine-eligibility-acknowledges-myocarditis-risk-from-vaccines/ https://canadianriley.com/ontario-top-doctor-expands-4th-vaccine-eligibility-acknowledges-myocarditis-risk-from-vaccines/?noamp=mobile#respond Thu, 14 Jul 2022 02:05:20 +0000 https://canadianriley.com/?p=1339 Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore announced at a press conference on July 13 that Ontario will expand eligibility for the fourth COVID-19 vaccine shot to include all adults starting July 14 at 8 a.m.  Those who are under 60 and healthy can choose to wait until the fall for a new shot that’s expected to better target Omicron variants.

A reporter who asked him why the province has allowed for a “personal decision” instead of recommending the second booster shot for everyone.  Moore replied “We are doing a risk-based approach. There’s always a risk to having any therapeutic versus a benefit,” healthy adults do not necessarily need a second booster shot for COVID-19, as the risk of hospitalization is “very, very low.”  “You want to make sure there’s a very strong benefit versus the risk. If you’re an 18-year-old healthy individual, the risk of getting hospitalized, if you have no underlying medical illness, is very very low” said Moore.

“We know there is a risk, a very small risk, 1 in 5,000 that may get myocarditis, for example, and you’d have to have that discussion on the risk-benefit of complications from the vaccine versus the benefit of decreased hospitalization for a young healthy person.”

Borders Call on Trudeau to Drop ArriveCan App to Stop Pushing Tourists Away https://canadianriley.com/borders-call-on-trudeau-to-drop-arrivecan-app-to-stop-pushing-tourists-away/ https://canadianriley.com/borders-call-on-trudeau-to-drop-arrivecan-app-to-stop-pushing-tourists-away/?noamp=mobile#respond Sat, 18 Jun 2022 03:00:22 +0000 https://canadianriley.com/?p=648 Starting on June 20, domestic and outbound international travellers no longer have to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to enter Canada. However, inbound travellers will still need to enter their health information, quarantine plan and proof of vaccination through the ArriveCAN app.

The ArriveCAN app was introduced during the pandemic to allow travellers to report their trips and vaccination status and COVID-19-related health information before arriving in Canada.

The calls to drop the app come a day after the federal government announced that it is easing a number of restrictions introduced during the pandemic. It did not announce it was eliminating the ArriveCAN app.

A group of mayors and businesses in communities along the Canada-U.S. border is calling on the federal government to end the ArriveCAN app, saying it is discouraging Americans from visiting and shopping in Canada.

Canadian and American border cities, urged that keeping the ArriveCAN app will have a “long lasting” impact on the country’s tourism sector.

What’s happening right now is Americans are showing up in the minivan with their family at the border with no knowledge of the ArriveCAN app. There’s a lineup of cars behind them. They can’t get into the country.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra gave no indication that the federal government is considering scrapping the ArriveCan app for travellers.

The arrive can app is increasingly unnecessary, and it’s hopelessly broken.

“People tried to contact the CBSA to fix the issue that CBSA told them that they didn’t offer support relating to reentering Canada.  The arrive can app is increasingly unnecessary, and it’s hopelessly broken.”
