Conservatives have been pressing the Liberals to come out and tell the truth about any interference into Nova Scotia mass shooting investigation. Finally a member of the NDP Alistair MacGregor has also stepped up in the House of Commons asking the Liberals to cooperate with the investigation.

Bill Blair repeatedly denies any involvement or influence in the investigation. Bill Blair went so far as to say that “there was no promise” contrary to what RCMP commissioner Lucki has stated. RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki said that she made a promise to the Minister of Public Safety, and the Prime Minister’s Office, that she would release information on the April 18th-19th shootings.

Somebody is not telling the truth, is it the RCMP, is it the Liberals or both?

Conservatives have been calling for the resignation of the Public Safety Minister, Marco Mendicino because they claim that he lied to Canadians when he said “on the recommendation of law enforcement we invoked the Emergency Act”. Conservatives claim that Mendicino is backpedaling, claiming he was just “misunderstood”, and that there is no room for being misunderstood when setting historical precedents so he must resign. The conservatives have a petition asking for his resignation.

If you thought that it was only the Conservatives accusing the Liberal Marco Mendicino of lying when it comes to invoking the Emergencies Act think again. The leader of the Bloc Quebecois Yves-François Blanchet also accuses Marco Mendicino of citing falsehoods to invoke the Emergencies Act.

Abortion is one of the key political issues where the Liberals want to distinguish themselves from the Conservatives.

The Liberals are going on the offensive over this issue, by committing to “no longer provide charity status to anti-abortion organizations (for example, Crisis Pregnancy Centres).” Both measures could provoke a negative reaction from pro-life advocates – and put pressure on the Conservatives to oppose the policy. With the recent rollback of abortion rights in United States fresh in the minds of many, the next Liberal campaign will hope this issue motivates women voters as it has in the past.

Bill Blair came under fire during question period Wednesday over allegations of political interference that suggested RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki was acting on the orders of the Liberals in the wake of the mass shooting in Nova Scotia in April 2020.

Facing multiple questions, Blair came to the defense of Commissioner Brenda Lucki, who is at the center of the controversy, which has generated calls for emergency parliamentary hearings.

“There was no pressure brought to bear and no interference with the operational decisions of the RCMP,” Blair told reporters on Wednesday. “I made no effort to pressure the RCMP to interfere in any way with their investigation. I gave no direction as to what information they should communicate. Those are operational decisions of the RCMP. And I respect that and I have respected that throughout.”

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) has teamed with Professor Michael Geist from the University of Ottawa, an expert in broadcasting and online regulations, to produce “Bill C-11: A Fatally Flawed Gateway to Government Censorship.”

The use of the phrase gateway is an important one here. That’s because Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his ministers will tell you this bill has nothing to do with censoring the Internet.

YouTubers and other influencers are taking to social media to express their dismay over the Liberal government passing its online censorship law, Bill C-11.

It was always obvious that the discoverability rules in Bill C-11 would require algorithmic manipulation. That’s why Canadian digital creators were so concerned about the bill. Despite Pablo Rodriguez denials, the CRTC chair confirmed it. And Heritage officials confirm that no other country in the world regulates user content and social media like Bill C-11. Claims it’s about fairness, but reality is other countries have recognized inappropriate to regulate non-curated services in this way

The risk to Canada’s economic reputation was behind the federal government’s invocation of the Emergencies Act to deter the “Freedom Convoy” blockades across the country, the deputy prime minister and finance minister repeatedly told MPs during her testimony during the Emergencies Act committee.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland testified before the special committee reviewing the Emergencies Act on June 14 but left many questions unanswered, causing some parliamentarians to express frustration.

Even when asked repeatedly Chrystia Freeland wouldn’t say whose idea it was to invoke the Emergencies Act, but said that she will personally take responsibility for it.

It was a collective decision. But at that time, and today I’m talking of the reality for me, I would like to take the personal responsibility for that decision. It was my opinion. It was it was the correct decision.
