Freeland Grilled in Committee for Relying on Fake CBC Story to Justify Emergencies Act https://canadianriley.com/freeland-grilled-in-committee-for-relying-on-fake-cbc-story-to-justify-emergencies-act/ https://canadianriley.com/freeland-grilled-in-committee-for-relying-on-fake-cbc-story-to-justify-emergencies-act/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 17 Jun 2022 02:27:03 +0000 https://canadianriley.com/?p=575 Conservative Larry Brock grilled Chrystia Freeland while testifying in Parliamentary Committee for relying on fake CBC story to justify Emergencies Act.

In a 14-page document tabled to the House of Commons in February, the Liberals directly cited CBC News’ analysis of donor data that claimed a majority of funding for the convoy came from abroad.

The state owned taxpayer funded Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported on February the 10th 2022, that the GoFundMe donations to the Conway protest came from donors located outside of Canada.

Freeland Grilled by NDP MP Matthew Green About Being Evasive During Emergencies Act Committee https://canadianriley.com/freeland-grilled-by-ndp-mp-matthew-green-about-being-evasive-during-emergencies-act-committee/ https://canadianriley.com/freeland-grilled-by-ndp-mp-matthew-green-about-being-evasive-during-emergencies-act-committee/?noamp=mobile#respond Thu, 16 Jun 2022 04:08:24 +0000 https://canadianriley.com/?p=556 ‘It’s to the point of almost being contemptible,’ NDP MP Matthew Green says of the Finance Minister’s appearance. NDP MP Matthew Green challenged Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland on Tuesday during a special joint committee on the invocation of the Emergencies Act about the answers she was providing, saying she had cited news articles and people spoken to as primary sources. He said they needed to know if the government had “facts that would meet the economic impacts of the occupation to be significant enough to meet the threshold of a threat to national security.”

MP Matthew Green expressed his concern for the lack of facts being provided during questioning “You’re here both as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. I have to say that I’m very concerned with the nature of the answers we have now the fourth intervention. And I’m not sure that you’ve brought any additional facts.”

Bill Blair Says Police Did Not Ask for Emergencies Act Saying it is a Decision of Government https://canadianriley.com/bill-blair-says-police-did-not-ask-for-emergencies-act-saying-it-is-a-decision-of-government/ https://canadianriley.com/bill-blair-says-police-did-not-ask-for-emergencies-act-saying-it-is-a-decision-of-government/?noamp=mobile#respond Thu, 16 Jun 2022 00:41:12 +0000 https://canadianriley.com/?p=550 Former Public Safety Minister of Bill Blair contradicts current Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino.   Emergency preparedness minister Bill Blair is the latest to admit that the police didn’t ask for the Emergencies Act to be invoked:

“I’m not aware of any recommendation of law enforcement,” Blair said Tuesday. “Quite frankly, this is a decision of government.”

Blair said during the “Freedom Convoy” he spoke regularly with police who “were clearly having difficulties” restoring law and order, and that his role was to try to figure out why that was happening.

In response to Sen. Claude Carignan, who asked if Blair was aware of any such recommendation, he said, “Frankly I would have been quite surprised if the police had actually made a policy recommendation or asked for any legislative authority.”

“I do not believe that would have been an appropriate thing for law enforcement to ask, and they did not ask,” Blair said.”

During Emergencies Act committee testimony Bill Blair also admitted that Marco Mendicino misled Canadians when Mendicino linked the Freedom Convoy to the arson attempt in Ottawa.

Bill Blair confirms during testimony that police did not ask for the Emergencies Act “I’m not aware of any recommendation from law enforcement, quite frankly, this was the decision of government. It was it was it’s a decision of the government.”

‘It’s to the point of almost being contemptible,’ NDP MP Matthew Green says of the Finance Minister’s appearance. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland refused to waive cabinet confidentiality when asked if the government will release documents relating to its decision to invoke the Emergencies Act.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland was asked if the government will waive cabinet confidence and solicitor client privilege in the documents ordered by this committee.  Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland responded “I think everyone here appreciates the importance of cabinet confidentiality.”

Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino has been changing his story from “we acted on the advice of law enforcement” to “we consulted with law enforcement” after RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki and interim Ottawa police chief Steve Bell and police chief Peter Soloy denied asking for the emergencies act to be used.

Mendicino has been trying to clarify his comments, saying the government consulted with police about what powers they needed to end the blockades, and the Emergencies Act was the only way to give them those powers.

Police Plan to Dismantle the Ottawa Freedom Protest Didn’t Need the Emergencies Act https://canadianriley.com/police-plan-to-dismantle-the-ottawa-freedom-protest-didnt-need-the-emergencies-act/ https://canadianriley.com/police-plan-to-dismantle-the-ottawa-freedom-protest-didnt-need-the-emergencies-act/?noamp=mobile#respond Sun, 12 Jun 2022 21:17:54 +0000 https://canadianriley.com/?p=460 According to police testimony during a parliamentary committee meeting, on February 12, 2022 before the Emergencies Act was invoked, police had a plan and adequate police resources in place to dismantle the Ottawa freedom protest before the Emergencies Act was invoked.

During testimony the RCMP was asked “12th of February you confident that the police were at a point where their plan would be successful in removing and clearing, making whatever is necessary. The people that were situated on Wellington Street and beyond.”  RCMP confirmed that they were confident that the convoy could be removed with the existing plan “I was briefed of the planet a 12th. I’m confident. And as I mentioned earlier, this is a plan that’s in motion. It’s dynamic. It’s fluid because of what we’re seeing on a train. But I’m confident it might have tweaked a little bit as we move to the kinetic portion. But yes, I was confident, but certainly that no concerns if I may, you had no concerns that you didn’t have the resources didn’t have the capability and capacity to actually operationalize the plan.”
